Congregation Beth Israel

Opportunities to Participate

Our members derive much satisfaction from their involvement in any number of synagogue projects. Beth Israel's Sisterhood and men's Club maintain a full calendar of activities which contribute additional funds to the synagogue as they enhance our identities as Jews. The community also supports B 'nai B'rith and Hadassah chapters that annually raise substantial sums of money to benefit international Jewish causes.

For over a decade, Beth Israel's Lecture series has brought a noteworthy speaker to the Lebanon area each spring. The event has featured such lecturers as Elie Weisel, Mme. Jehan Sadat, and Lawrence Eagleberger in years past, and is the focus of community-wide interest and support.

A relatively new congregational effort, the Lebanon Holocaust Education Fund has sent hundreds of students from local high schools to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. The program is intended to include students of all religions, races and ethnicities in order to promote tolerance and understanding among today's youth.

As we enter the 21st Century, Beth Israel is developing Internet-based resources that can be shared electronically with parents, teachers, and other small congregations. Today's technology provides an unprecedented opportunity to reach out to and serve the homebound, the unaffiliated, and the community at large.
