A Note from our Rabbi
Shalom from all of us at Congregation Beth Israel, the Jewish community in Lebanon! Wed like to invite you to stop by and get to know us, and let us get to know you.Whatever your interests and whatever your personal Jewish practice, we have a place for you. We have activities for every age group---from religious school and youth activities to adult education and social events---in addition to a regular schedule of services, celebrating the Shabbat and the wonderful cycle of the Jewish holidays.
We are a haimisch (homey) congregation, warm and welcoming. Many of us are long-time residents, but many are new to the area. We welcome intermarried families and Jews by choice. There is always a place at the table for new friends.
We have been part of the Lebanon community for 100 years and are active in community affairs, working with other faith traditions to help meet the needs of those in need.
We need YOU, your skills and your interests! You will never be just a number, but a treasured member of the family. Please give me a call at the synagogue office, (717) 273-2669 or send me an email at rabbireimers@verizon.net, and lets have coffee and schmooze.
Our Rabbi
Rabbi Paula L. Reimers was among the first women to be ordained Rabbi by the Conservative Movement. She has served as Rabbi in congregations in Los Angeles, Connecticut and Arizona. She decided to become a congregational rabbi because she wanted to serve God by being part of peoples lives.
Rabbi Reimers has a life-long love of learning, and has studied international affairs at Columbia University and church-state relations at Baylor University, in addition to her Jewish studies. She also loves teaching all ages, from the youngest to the oldest, because we all have something new to learn.
Rabbi Reimers has been involved in interfaith activities in addition to Jewish communal activities, since mutual respect and understanding are the only basis for shalom.
Congregation Beth Israel and its Rabbi welcome your comments and inquiries, whether by phone, letter, fax, email, or personal visit.
