General Considerations

For Fifth Grade, I break my own rule, and propose to introduce two new holidays, Simchat Torah and Shavuot. My excuse is (1) they both concern Torah, (2) both presentations are very short and (3) Simchat Torah is presented at the same time as the Sukkot presentation.

All other holidays use the same scripts as for Third and Fourth Grade: Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, Sukkot (with a new Simchat Torah portion inserted), Hanukkah, Purim and Passover. The new holiday of Shavuot is inserted at the end.

The kids are older, so the important words that I ask them to repeat should be written on the black board. You may also shift to a more grown up vocabulary if appropritate.

[Addendum added in 2001: I must admit that I have never actually given the Shavuot presentation. By that time, my daughters would no longer tolerate my coming to class to lecture their friends.]
